Use the mouse wheel to zoom on the map below Manapouri is the gateway to Doubtful Sound and Fiordland The location of “The Cottage” Homestay B&B accommodation is beside the lower Waiau River in the small town of Manapouri. Our home is surrounded by trees and cottage garden. We offer lovely views through the trees of the Fiordland Mountains, the Lower Waiau River and a little of Lake Manapouri. Sit outside and enjoy the view as well as the birdsong. You are welcome to leave your car here while you visit the fiord. MANAPOURI is a small town 20km south of the tourist town of TE ANAU on the Southern Scenic Route, on the shores of Lake Manapouri and the lower Waiau River. The serenity and charm of the Lake Manapouri backed by Bushclad Mountains has it justly described as the most beautiful lake in New Zealand. It is also called the lake of many islands, 34 in all. We have three excellent cafes (picnic lunches a specialty), a shop, and Garage (Manapouri Motors). While visiting this area we suggest you allow time to see a 32 min spectacular film at Fiordland Cinema Te Anau called Ata Whenua ( Shadowland ). It is only a two minute walk from our home through the Beech Trees to Pearl Harbour where the boat departs for Doubtful Sound or the Kayak and Cruise Day Trip.
